Psychic Energy Cords & The Ties That Bind – Part 1
Psychic energy links are invisible cords of energy which pass between us and our friends, colleagues, family members and others every day. These cords act as conduits for communication, facilitating the exchange of energy and information. They can connect to any part of the body, including – but not limited to – the chakras, leaving you depleted in that area.
We all put out these cords and for the most part it is a subconscious act, executed by the astral self in response to some desire we have.
For example: when we think of a friend, perhaps voicing a wish that they might call, we send out a cord to them. Whether they respond or not depends upon their sensitivity and openness at the time. When we visit a sick friend, we often leave feeling inexplicably depleted because our sick friend has sent out a cord to us. When someone cuts you off at an intersection and angers you, you throw out a cord to him… and on it goes; Anyone around you who wants a little – or a lot – from you, will cord you, knowingly or not. This act is a direct result of desire acted upon by the spiritual self. They send out a cord (or cords) to you and in doing so form a link to you. Energy or light is siphoned through these cords, leaving you depleted in that area.
This doesnt mean you should run around pointing your finger accusingly just yet, lol, because we are all guilty of it, purely subconsciosly.
Exceptions to this rule include psychics, who deliberately throw out these cords to retrieve the neccessary information to help you with your query, though not all psychics/clairvoyants are aware that they are doing this, still believing their sight to be a gift rather than a skill to be honed. Another example of conscious cording is when one knowingly cords another person in order to bleed energy for themselves. This can happen to varying degrees and is basically a form of psychic attack…
An extreme example of this is the unscrupulous “cult leader” or spiritual “guru”. These people prey on those who are at a low spiritual ebb and/or desperately seeking spiritual enlightenment and fulfilment, often impatiently. The “guru” claims he has divine links and knowledge and encourages his followers to link to him so that they might gain from his wealth of enlightenment. His followers gratefully link to him in the hopes of fast-tracking their spiritual developement. Through these links the guru may siphon energy to feed his own spiritual workings but decide not to share what he has gained from his experiences. This leaves the followers in his thrall but without any spiritual sustainance. They may feel a sense of belonging when in his presence (brought about by the piece of themselves which they have given up to him), but gain no insight nor energy from him, thus leaving them unfulfilled but unable to resist the pull of his will. Gentle nudges from the psyche of the guru can insight action, emotion, and illness. Even when a follower is wanting to leave, they find this very difficult and emotionally traumatic, and many times they dont make it out. This happens because when the follower tries to create distance between themselves and the guru – physically, spiritually or emotionally – they distance themselves from a part of them selves which is tied up in the guru. He in turn is aware through his connection to the follower of his or her change and acts to prevent them from continuing. The longer these connections go on, the more danger there is of permanent damage being done.
This sort of abuse can be seen in smaller-scale scenarios such as relationships between spiritual seekers where a power-struggle is involved. Sometimes a relationship may be initiated by an ambitious seeker in order that they might gain energy, insight, power and control from a person they see as energetically attractive or more knowledgable and enlightened than themselves. The one on one relationship offers a perfect environment for psychic attack, because a person’s entire reality can be made to revolve around the illussion created by the offending person. He has the unique advantage of exclusive loyalty and a closeness to body, mind and spirit which is reinforced constantly, and the will of the instigator is easily disguised as the “joint will” of the two.
Though the person under attack may be aware that they are unhappy, feel a sense of depletedness and a lack of fulfilment (among other symptoms), they may not be aware of why they feel this way, especially if the offender is working to confuse the matter. The strong, long-term link between the two and the loss of energy from one to the other gives the attacker the power to influence the perspective, emotional and physical health, and – ultimately – the will of even the most spiritually aware person. Again, even as the corded individual feels the desire to leave, they find this extremely difficult – often more so than those in the “guru / follower” relationship, because of the deep cords formed in any relationship adding strength and cover to the underlying issue of the power-struggle and the subsequent ties that bind. (when seperated from their assailant, they, too feel a great sense of loss but now mistake it for love. Thus the cycle continues.)
Another type of psychic energy connection is the Karmic cord. This is formed over a long period of time (ie: a long-term relationship) where karmic issues created within the relationship are not dealt with at the end of the partnership. Cords between the two people will quickly and persistantly be re-established until the karma or lesson between the two is resolved or complete. ie: When we leave a long-term relationship, we find that upon thinking of our previous partner we feel a loss of a part of ourselves, too. This is becuse we have sent a part of ourselves with the cord to the other person and until the unresolved issues are dealt with, that part of us will not be restored.
Cord Management
Intentional or subconscious, these cords effect us all and the health and developement of the spirit (or “astral” self) as well as the physical body depends greatly upon the management of these links (ingoing as well as outgoing).
Some cords will disipate on their own over a short (days or weeks) period of time. For example: When we are attracted to a passing stranger, we send a subconscious chord to them. Unless our desire is acted upon this cord will disipate over the following days with our interest. Without reinforcement the link cannot be maintained.
All cords can be severed during meditation. You may find after doing so, friends or family members may feel compelled to call or visit or otherwise “touch base” with you. This is because on a spiritual level they have felt the disconnection from you, though they will likely not be consciously aware of it. This act of “touching base” will re-establish cords which are formed by important relationships such as friends and family. I find it helpful at the end of mediitation to simply think of my loved ones. This re-establishes our links and is a nice way to end a meditation.
For those who are inexperienced with cord management the following is a good technique. It is deliberately involved so that the inexperienced may become familiar with all levels of self.
- When you have protected yourself, silently as: “please connect me with my astral self”
If you cannot find this body, ask for a guide and explain that you are seeking your traveller body. The first time is always often more complicated than subsequent times, as the process is foreign.
- When you locate your astral body help him or her to return to your channel, cleansing it first with a flush of energy. This energy is formed into a stream from your brow chakra into a miniature tornado and is released to sweep across your traveller, collecting any negativity in it’s path.
- Have this energy, in the form of light, spiral around your astral body until it is clear and clean. When this is done, visualise the tornado twisting off out of sight and into space.
- Allow your astral form to indicate through which chakra it wishes to return, and accept it accordingly.
- Ensure that you close the chakra behind your traveller, leaving no gaps. If there are any other holes in that chakra, close them at this time.
- Now scan your body*, starting with the crown chakra, for any cords which may be present.
(*energy cords can appear at any point in the physical body, they are not limited to the chakras. If you have a weak spot in your physical body it makes for an easier entry of a psychic cord. When clearing cords it is wise to check your whole body, not just your chakras.)
- If you find any cords attatched to that chakra, cut each cord one at a time. To cut a psychic cord take an inward breath and visualise a small whirlwind of white light extending outward from your brow chakra. See this whirlwind break free of your body and sever the cord as it goes.
- Once a cord is cut, it will fall away from you and you can allow it to disolve of it’s own accord. Dont allow the size of the cord to put you off. Simply ensure that the cord has been cut before you proceed.
You can burn the cord back to it’s source if you are so inclined, or simly close it off by diminishing it in a clockwise direction. You are in effect spiraling it back upon itself. As long as you push it back out of your energy field (aura) you’ll be doing what is required.
It is not neccessary to follow the cord back to it’s source, as this may cause your traveller difficulties and take time locating and freeing it.
- In rare cases the person sending the cord has some unresolved issue with you and wants to maintain the connection to you. If this occurs your guide may assist by reasoning with the spirit of the other person, helping them to understand why you want the cord disolved.
- As a minimum measure you need to push cords back to the outside of your aura.
If you trace the cord back to the person who sent it you stop outside their aura and explain to their spirit that you dont want their cord. Make sure that you see them turn away from you when you have told them this, as it is your signal that they have taken the cord back again and are not interested in re-cording you again at this time.
- It is sometimes worthwhile asking the person on the other end of the cord why they have corded you. This gives you a chance to adjust your actions if a particular reason for cording repeats.
- Once they have turned away, you and your astral self may return to your channel.
When intact your channel resembles a fine white shield surrounding your body. It is evenly formed without thin patches or holes.
- Once you have removed all cords from this chakra, front and back, move down to the next hakra and repeat this process until you have cleared you base chakra. If there is a blockage in any of the chakras, you may find it difficult to move past it to the chakra below. This is natural, and with repeated attempts each time you complete this exercise, you’ll find such blocks disperse, allowing you to work your way down to the base chakra.
- When you have cut a cord and sealed your aura by closing off the hole left when the cord was removed, close your aura down by visualising it shrinking a little. Next, pull it back until it is level with your physical body. Sometimes auras extend outwards from the physical body, and if you have pulled your chakra energy back to your physical body it finds it’s own natural level.
A Chakra does not close fully when there is a cord still attatched. If you force a chakra closed you may experience pain in that chakra region, or find it springs open again when you move on to another chakra.
Make sure you cut cords from the front and from the back of your body and close the reaar openings of each chakra. Most people dont have the energy or the ability required to fully close their chakras in the early stages of using this technique, but complete success comes with practice. All chakras benefit from being equally developed, as this results in balance.
To travel throughout this universe astrally, return with knowledge and function effectively in the day-to-day world, requires that you master your chakra energies and remove any psychic cords which impede developement.
It is not uncommon for materialistic people to be unable to function well in spiritual circumstances, and it can be difficult for spiritually inclined people to be effective in physical or material situations. As we are spiritual beings who have chosen a physical dimension in which to master new concepts and to strengthen ourselves, it is important to tend to both our physical and our spiritual needs. Without losing our spiritual dentity we are challenged to master the material world.
Tracing cords out to the person at the other end is not neccessary once you have done this once or twice. This technique is merely to prove to you that cords lead somewhere.
When cutting cords you simply create in your mind a small whirlwind of light which you can direct to each cord in order to cut that cord. This whirlwind, which may only be 40cm tall and 10cm across can also be employed to cleanse your energy field.
Larger versions of this whirlwind can be employed to sweep a room to cleanse it of negative energy. When the whirlwind has swept the room, you can direct it out the window and off into the sky.

Once familiar with all levels of self and well practiced in the technique above, the following, much simpler technique should suffice:
- center yourself through meditation.
- Ask for protection on all levels.
- Scan your body to sense where you feel less present, perhaps due to a cord pulling you off-centre.
- If you see or sense a cord, create in your mind a small whirlwind out of the white light pouring down into your crown from above.
- Direct this whirlwind to slice the cord and break the connection. The cord will fall away naturally.
- When you feel that you have cut all necessary cords, direct the whirlwind around your body and your auric field to collect all remaining negativity.
- When you have collected all remaining negativity, direct the whirlwind out of your aura and off into space.
- Return your awareness to your physical body and complete your meditation.
(These cord cutting procedures are examples adapted from Paul Fenton-Smith’s “A Secret Door to the Universe” and are certainly not the only means of severing psychic cords, (my own methods are much less involved) but I do hope they are helpful to those who find they work better with format to focus their energy work.)
